Any good reason to study graphic design?

I would like to know for people that studied graphic design what is a good argument to study that career, and what are the benefits of it. I guess sometimes you can learn graphic design by reading from contemporary designers like Picasso and reading modern books.

So what are your arguments for studying this career?
