How to achieve parallel hatching tecniques digitally? [duplicate]

I'm really inspired by the redesign of this movie poster: http://ift.tt/18yA7Aa I really love the flat color and the minimal use of shading.

In looking specifically at the outer layer of the sun, and the right hand side of Simba's mane, am I correct in believe this technique is called parallel hatching? How would I efficiently apply this technique in Illustrator?
