Best way to show icons over an arbitrary background image

I am newbie when it comes to design/ui. I am creating an android application for the phone. On one of the pages, there is going to be a random background image. I would like to put 4 image button icons on top of the background image. The icon buttons will be for "go to url", "share", "replay", "like".

However, I need some help. What's the best way to put these icons on top of the image? Should they be transparent? Should they be solid colors? Should there be an outline shadow?

The icons would look like this:

2D dimensions from photograph

Suppose I want to take the dimensions of an object of negligible width on a flat surface from a photograph and am able to calibrate in the sense that I know the distance per pixel of some line drawn on the object via doing real world measurements.

How could I go about getting the other dimensions without manually finding a pixel to distance ratio or measuring each individual desired dimension irl?

Is there some program that can use this photograph to craft a 2D outline of it that I might then use with CAD?

Does SVG supports complex logos?

I have created a complex 3d style logo with transparency and other effects in adobe illustrator and later save as SVG file format. However, due to complexity of the logo illustrator or SVG failed to produced a perfect images. Now, I want to know that does SVG supports 3D & complex shapes or it should only be used for 2D images? and does it supports transparency & other effects or would it be better to avoid these things?

Illustrator adds and shows stroke on text and object, but stroke color is none weight is none

I just created a circle in Illustrator CC 2014. The color swatches are a green fill, no stroke. The circle is green with a black stroke.

Same thing happening with text. I specify a color fill and no stoke, but there is definitely a stroke on the text.

Any ideas? I quite illustrator and restarted the computer. I even took the plunge and upgraded from CC --> CC 2014.

Photoshop: How to edit a shape when select again in its layer

Maybe this question seems easily but I don't know why it doesn't obvious in my current Photoshop settings.

  1. I select shape tool and draw somethings (such as circle, rectangle ...). I see at this step, I see properties panel for change shape attributes:

toolbar toolbar

  1. I select another layers (for doing some work, so I lost focus current shape). And then I choose again new created shape layer. After that I choose Move Tool to select shape. I cannot see shape toolbar again for editing. I just see this toolbar:

toolbar

My question is: How can I select again shape and show shape toolbar for editing purpose ?

Thanks :)

Thank you all for trying to answer ,i did ask the artist for general guidence, but none would even reply so here is some more links to 2 simmilar work by 2 artist 1:http://ift.tt/1A0P1sN tim noonan of flickr no. 2 is:http://ift.tt/1AX7nJk by brillianthues and thank you for trying. – Ez Jack 23 hours ago

I'd wager a small bet that the reason they won't tell you is either a) they can't reproduce it (forgotten what they did) or b) it was a happy little accident that happened while messing with filters. It could also be a & b. – DumbNic 22 hours ago strong text

Photoshop: How to draw a guide with exactly distance with another guide

Before drawing, I want to draw all guides for my layout. For example, I have already guide line named A. After that, I want to have another guide line named B that parallel with guide line A and has distance is 50px.

I have three solutions:

  1. Draw line B and by "some way", I can see directly current distance when I'm drawing, so I can make distance exactly as I want.

  2. Draw line B. And then I use Ruler tool to see distance between two line. This method has disadvantages: maybe the ruler line that I draw isn't perpendicular with two line A and B and I don't sure when distance is enough.

  3. There are other clever ways, that helps me do this job done fast and easily (But I haven't known yet), because I think Photoshop should support this feature.

I have three solutions as above. But I don't know in each solutions, how can I do. Please help me. Thanks :)
