how well does visual communication useful in web design

I have been in web designing field from few years. I'm not graduated from formal design schools. however i'm learning things through online like typography, grids, color scheme and all the things which are useful to web design.



I came across a term 'visual communication'. I searched in google and came to know what it does. I just want to know how this can contribute to web design. If it does please suggest me any resources that could help me.
