Round sharp edges of icon using GIMP or PIXLR

I am trying to make icon and small clip-arts to use in my app but the artwork I import has very sharp edges and they screw up the cleanliness of the app. How to buffer the edges

I am using Pixlr editor and Gimp Editor for Ubuntu Linux.
