Photoshop CC: render the 3d wireframe as a drawn 2d layer...?

I recently stumbled upon the 3D capabilities of Photoshop CC. I don't want to use them, but I could certainly use the wireframe grid that appears on top of the 3D objects because having access to it would help immensely for drawing 3D in a traditional 2D style when making paths.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to move the wireframe grid around and then save the image of the grid itself as a 2D image (into its own layer, so it can be shown and hidden). It's okay if I have to do it multiple times for different views. Is there some simple way to do this? More generally, is there any way to create a grid-like guide I can use to draw 2D paths from?

If not, I'll do something like create a teeny-tiny canvas, try to make a teeny-tiny 3d object, printscreen the image of the wireframe, then import it after cropping. But, this is clearly super-janky...
