I need a professional logo for my business but there are so many websites I don't know

My frined needs a professional logo for his business but there are SO many websites I don't know where to start, some are probably good and so are probably HORRIBLE. Can some experts in Graphic Design tell me of some good websites that will do a VERY professional logo for my business? The top of my budget would probably be around $200 to $300. This is for a digital copy logo, something I can use on my website but also take to someone so that they can make a sign for my company as well.
