How to make different buttons active inside a symbol (website header) in Sketch?

I'm designing a website in Sketch for the first time. I'm getting used to working with symbols, and they are a huge timesaver.

Now I want to make my website header a symbol, so that when I have to change it, it changes on all pages later on. But on different pages I want to have a different button set to 'active' (have a different look). When I change it on one, it obviously changes on all pages.

I found out that I can exclude text values from a symbol, but then when I later have to change a menu-item I still have to do it on all pages separately.

How do you guys do this?
