Are there any well known websites using pull quotes with only a left-hand double quote?

I noticed several web sites recently with pull quotes that only had a left-hand double quote. After some more searching, I found two blog postings showing pull quotes without a closing quote.

Since the one posting is from 2008, I am wondering how long this has been a thing and if there are any notable sites that are using the technique.
