What's your Ai technique for drawing stroke-less illustrations with the pen tablet?

I either make closed shapes with the pen tool then fill them with no strokes. Or, for stroked illustrations, I make the entire line-art (mostly with the wacom tablet) then do the whole "expand appearance, merge, paint a duplicated layer with the paint bucket tool" process.

But is there a way to create 'stroke-less' illustrations with the help of the pen tablet?

How to change separate strokes lineart into stroke-less shapes?

I made the line art by tracing each line separately, instead of tracing fully closed shapes. Get it? not a separate stroke for each closed shape. Just a bunch strokes on separate layers meeting other strokes on separate layers.

What's the most practical to turn a lineart like this into clean closed shapes? I want to make it a 'strokless' vector without having to redo the whole thing with a different approach.

Sample and paste a color from one object with a gradient to another object with a gradient

I have 2 images with the same object in them. Both objects have a gradient. I want to sample the color of the first object and paste it into the second object without destroying the gradient in the second object.

Choosing the eyedropper tool and sampling the color, then double-clicking on the fill-icon at the bottom of the tool panel, seems to work. When the color-picker panel comes up, the numeric value of colors without a gradient is in that window. But when I sample the color of the object with the gradient, the color-picker panel does not give me the correct numeric value of the color.

In all cases though, as soon as I sample the color of ANY object in the first image, the fill-icon changes to that color, with or without gradient. Sampling the gradient color gives me that color, (with the gradient), in the fill-icon. But when I double-click on the fill-icon, the gradient object color does not come up in the color-picker panel. So I'll be unable to paste it into the second object.

Winter Bash 2014 Graphical Design

Merry Christmas, everyone; my expertise lies not in web design, though I have had a little experience in the past.

I really enjoy the design of the Winter Bash 2014 page. It is soothing to look at, not complicated to the eye and the colors blend really well.

I also noticed that the snow flakes would interact with your mouse over. This is totally rad.

So my question is, would one need jQuery to accomplish that or CSS would simply suffice to achieve the effect?

Would one at least need Photoshop to create graphics initially and then animate them? Or it is possible to accomplish all that just by using HTML, CSS, jQuery etc (I am just making a guess here)?

Happy holidays.

How do i play 2 gif files side by side at once/at the same time in 1 single gif file?

i'm just a random guy passing through. Anyways, How do i play 2 gif files side by side at once/at the same time in 1 single gif file?

How can I get rid of a visual flaw in my logo. It appears to be coming from 3D effect

I'm creating a logo that is text-based. When I add the 3D Bevel and Extrude effect, it makes an odd-looking glitch on one of the letters.

This logo is something I created in Photoshop then had to mimic in Illustrator so that I can give my client a vector format of the logo (rookie mistake!). So, I had to manipulate each letter to take on the shape of the one I'd made in Photoshop. Each letter is on it's own "layer" (is that a thing in Illustrator?) so that I could space them appropriately and edit each one separately. The letter in question was stretched both length and width-wise. There are no flaws in the letter before I apply the 3D effect. I've tried saving different formats of the file as well as undoing and redoing the effect on that letter by itself. I thought maybe it was just an issue with Illustrator, so I opened the file on another machine and saw the same flaw. This problem is not happening to any other letters.

Here is a photo of it: http://ift.tt/174NJSH

The issue is on the top curve of the "S".

And here are my settings for the effect: http://ift.tt/1vGjE1t

What am I doing wrong?

Change an ellipse/circle's size from the center after it has been drawn

I've drawn several vector circles (all on different shape layers) in Photoshop and now would like to change their size to make them a bit smaller. Is there a way to do this and have them shrink/grow from the center?

If I select the layer then select the ellipse shape tool I can adjust the size from the tool options but that doesn't make the shape grow/shrink from the center.

I want to print some posters but don't know where to look for Images which are not Copyrighted?

I started a new website for selling posters of Movies, Celebrities and Sports. Problem is most of the images that I got from Internet are now claimed by some people that they have copyrights of the images. I am trying to find the right Images but its very difficult for me. I looked in many free stock images website but was unable to get Images which are worth printing.

+ size - dpi = same quality?

I know this is very likely been asked before, but I don't know if it's the words or phrases I'm using or what but I can't find it. If it was resolved before, please just point me in the right direction.

I have to print a 20cm x 20cm image at 150dpi but the one I took with my camera is 10x10 at 300 dpi. (I'm using rounded numbers to make the example simpler)

Can I increase the size while sacrificing dpi and retain the same amount the quality? Is there a formular to calculate how much I can increase size per N dpi sacrificed? Can I do this in Photoshop?

Thanks

I cant figure out why photoshop sometimes shifts my pixel grid when I change image size to 200% and 50% for retina

My flow has always been to start at 1X and use image>image size>200% to get 2x and I flip between the 2 using 50% to get back to 1x.

But for no apparent reason, 1 out of 50-ish times it shifts everything off of my pixel grid into sub pixels.

Anyone else have this problem?

Do humanist/organic sans serif typefaces work well with scientific theses and lab reports in Palatino?

I am writing a scientific thesis and prefer the headings to be set in sans serif. Do humanist or organic sans serif typefaces such as Biolinum work well in this context, in particular if the body font is Palantino?

Are @2x images simply larger in terms of height and width or do they actually have a higher PPI (pixel density)?

Are @2x images simply larger in terms of height and width or do they actually have a higher PPI (pixel density)? If they are truly higher PPI, in terms of workflow of creating responsive images (and particulary retina) I've been told by trainers that it is important to link to or embed a higher PPI quality photo as a smart object -or- true vector (use vector shapes for icons, etc.) within your Photoshop document so that when you are ready to extract the images @2x, Photoshop will be able to generate (i.e. upsize to 2x) a crisp, high quality photo file. Is this aim correct or am I over-complicating retina images? I'm creating a responsive website design for desktop, tablet, and mobile, trying to figure out workflow. thx

What is "silver lining" color

Iam really new to graphic design & my sir gave me a project where i have to put silver lining color in a circle & text. Can anyone help me what is the meaning of silver lining?

'Inverting' an intensity variation

This is somewhat hard for me to explain, but what I'm looking for is a technique to correct a fixed-pattern intensity variation in an image. The pattern comes from (say) a projection system and is not inherent to the actual image.

I can produce a 90%-average white frame that exposes these variations, which amount to perhaps as much as 10%, so that the range of values will be from about 85% to 95% in different areas. I then need to make an inverted mask / alpha that undoes those variations. So if applied to the original white frame it would result in a pure image with no variations. Once created, the mask will be applied externally, not within a graphics program.

If I've managed to convey that, how would you approach the creating of this transparency / alpha mask, given the original white frame with variations? My tool of choice is PSP 9 (no laughs), but a solution using PS would be fine.

How to easily round corners on non-rectangle shapes?

(CS6)

Illustrator's Effect > Stylize > Round Corners effect gives strange results on non-rectangles. How can you take an irregular shape that has sharp corners, for example:

enter image description here

...and round the corners on each curved segment, like I've done manually on the first and last segments here?

enter image description here

Things I've tried:

  • Doing it manually with the pen tool takes a very long time. It's difficult to make the rounding consistent or uniform, and it's very easy to accidentally distort the rest of the curves.

  • Effect > Stylize > Round Corners gives strange, inconsistent results:

enter image description here

  • Inner strokes set to round corners seem to always come out square:

Make sure the text is always visible as much as possible

I am given a text that is placed on top of a background of a given color. I need a way to determine the monochrome color the text should have to ensure the text's maximum visibility.

My intuition: take the background color, invert it and make it monochrome - this is the color the text should have. Is this correct? This does seem to work, but I am not sure if the method is infallible. Perhaps this method does work, but there is a simpler way to do this?

Accessible PDF won't read past first page

I have created a pdf document using inDesign where I used document structure and tags to create an accessible pdf. Then in Acrobat I changed the reading order and tags again so that the Read Aloud function should read the entire document correctly. I followed all steps using this tutorial http://tv.adobe.com/watch/accessibility-adobe/preparing-indesign-files-for-accessibility/ however no matter what I try the read aloud function stops after the first page. Even if I try to read another page first it won't do anything. I don't understand what I am doing wrong and can not find any help/resources. Please help me. My pdf is located at http://yourschools.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/AODA-CommGuide.pdf

Pixlr - Transparent image with Text layer on top . Layer must be rasterized?

This is a noob question for sure, but I can't seem to find the answer. Using Pixlr Online in chrome I create a new transparent image and want to lay some text on top but keep getting the error that the Layer must be rasterized. So I select the layer and Rasterize it, but still can't seem to add text. see this screencast.

What is the difference between Glyph and Font?

I was going through one document and I came across this term 'glyph'. The term was new to me so looked into wiki for its definition. I felt both glyph and font is same. Am I correct? Else please tell me what is the difference between this two.

How to create an SVG path from a lineart?

I have a line drawing in PNG format, from which I need to create an SVG.

I need to create the svg path from right to left, left to right, center to sides OR sides to center. Here’s an example:

Image Skyline

I’m need this for a jQuery plugin (lazy line painter) that animates this line drawing in the sequence of the path provided in the SVG file.

I’m using Adobe Illustrator CS6, and it creates a jumbled-up SVG path in the SVG file. Due to this, the animation starts and ends abruptly from any direction (as per the SVG path in SVG file)

I also have the portable version of Inkscape, although I don’t know how to use Inkscape to import the PNG as line vector.

Pleas can someone suggest a way to do this in either Illustrator, Inkscape, or any other utility?

Also, how to decrease SVG output file in Illustrator? I placed two PNG line arts into illustrator, and then traced them. The output SVG file is 470 kb, while I need less than 40 kb. Is there any online tool or Illustrator/Photoshop plugin to optimize the SVG output to 40 kb size?

How to set Balance Ragged Lines as a paragraph style?

I was experimenting with Balance Ragged Lines after discovering that Adobe are trying to make it work on web text (seeing if it can handle dynamic text from data merge - turns out it can).

I couldn't find it in the Paragraph Styles options, and Adobe's help docs and everything else on it I could find just tell you to set it one paragraph at a time from the Paragraph window flyout menu, no mention of paragraph styles.

Is there a way I'm just not seeing?

using black-outlined cartoon illustrations in projection

I'm going to project my illustrations and am making them in gifs and also jpegs. i am the composer/artist presenting them to the projection-ist for our live music video/art shoot in a few weeks) the jpegs i am rendering with a solid black background and the gifs with empty backgrounds. if my cartoon-ish illustrations are shaped in black outlines, will the black outline disappear when the image is projected? i am wondering this because the projectionist told me to make the jpegs with black background... i got the impression that the projector won't project true black...so now I'm confused. How do I retain my images black outline in projection... and what format is best to save them? Hoping for your answers soon! THANKS!

Adobe Illustrator / Rhinoceros Custom Object Select

I'm using both AI and Rhino. I've got a file that's got over a thousand small circles that are nested inside other curves all over the file randomly. I want to select them all and group them in either Rhino or AI. How can this be done? I'm thinking programmatically, like select_if{ 0.05cm <= a && a <= 0.10}. Of course this string of code is just pseudocode to give you the gist of what I'm after assuming there is an "under the hood" approach to graphic design vis-a-vis AI or Rhino. Happy New Year!

Changing File Sizes in a PDF

Is there a way when exporting a .psd as a .pdf to make the file smaller?

My client always has me work in Photoshop and send them finished work as .pdf's, but they say the files are too big. These products are eventually printed out, so while I need to make the files smaller, they still need to have good quality. Everything is in CMYK mode already. I just don't know a lot about compression and changing file sizes

How to assign different border styles in Sketch?

I needed to assign different border styles for a shape, let's say rectangle. For example, I want to make a #666 1px top border and #333 2px bottom border like we do in CSS.

{
border-top: 1px solid #666;
border-bottom: 2px solid #333;
}

Anyone knows a practical way to do this? Any help would be appreciated.

How can I curve a logo on a path without distorting it too much

I've encountered a problem and I'm hoping there is going to be a quick fix involved, and that I wont have to redraw this http://i.gyazo.com/93ac823b4c5ad129bbc65ce77a33edd2.png logo.

The client wants to create a logo that curves on a tire like this https://www.giant-bicycles.com/_upload/news/2011/Tour_pre_TCR__angle.jpg

I know about the type on path tool, but this is a custom font. Is there a way to turn this into a font and would that make it distort correctly?

Critique: logo design for an engineering company that makes machinery

I'm designing a logo for a new company that will build plastic manufacturing machinery - a fairly small-sized low-tech industry where stability, solid engineering, and even country of manufacturer is of elevated importance.

The logo will go on a range of sizes: from small scale, like business cards, to logos imprinted on the machinery, to digital, to a sign on a building.

Features in order of importance:

  1. Giving a feeling of solid and well-engineered product

  2. Modern - yes, but not new, hip and startupy

  3. Canadian (red/white) but not in-your-face-Canadian. Not a deal breaker

Variations

This would go on business cards, official company correspondence:

Business cards, letter heads

This would go on signs, machinery:

machinery, building sign

This would be a standalone logo where otherwise the name of the company is known or implied by the context:

Alternatives to jQuery for client-side website animations?

I was recently looking for an alternative JavaScript animation library, because for the few simple animations I wanted, a ~200kb jQuery library is not the best option.

After a bit of searching, I found GSAP, and implemented it successfully (and smoother) than the jQuery animation I had previously created. It weighs in at around 80kb - so still not perfect (but that's with additional plugins to be able to use CSS selectors, if you animate an SVG you can probably omit the 60kb required file).

I'm wondering if there are any other great options available.

Does anyone know of alternative libraries for animating elements with JavaScript?

I'm not interested in Flash at all.

how do I import an eps into GIMP with a different background color?

Vector image in a .pptx exported to PDF: how can I avoid quality loss?

I hope someone can help me fix this.

I created a round icon using Illustrator, saved it as a PNG and inserted it into a .pptx file. So far, so good.

Now when I save my .pptx document as a .pdf, the icon suffers a major quality loss. Even when I zoom in on the .pdf, the icon is not a perfect circle anymore and can become blurry, which just looks messy.

When creating the PNG from Illustrator, I've tried saving the icon in various sizes, to no avail. I've also tried tweaking the resolution using Photoshop (from 72 to 150 then 300 ppi), but still can't get to a satisfactory result.

Has any one of you ever encountered this issue and found a solution for it? Thanks a lot for your time and help.

How to prepare Photoshop to design a Website

I'm having some trouble finding out how to prepare Photoshop to design a Website. When i try to program what i draw, the measurements are never correct. Always bigger.

Is there a way for me to design the website in "real" values?

Like, 10px in Photoshop being 10px in the browser.

Any way to see the design in different size in illustrator?

Is there any way to see your design in different sizes in real-time in Illustrator/Photoshop? Like, designing an icon and you wanna see how it will look like in 16x16 or in 512x512?

I know you can Save for web in any size but that's cumbersome for every little tweak you make.

Gimp - blending between layers controlled by heightmap

Well, let me explain my question.

Let's say, I have gray-scaled height map and ten layers with different diffuse textures or solid color textures.

I would like to blend these texture layers by heightmap, so if heightmap pixel is white, then it will show layer 10, if black, layer 1, and if something between it will show a layer between.

Yes, it's like a terrain where on top there is a snow texture, and at the bottom, there is a water texture.

Thanks for answer :)

Why do websites tend to show the content to the left?

I've noticed a trend in content positioning on popular websites such as facebook, youtube, 9gag and many more.. they all have their main content to the left side of website. Why is this? Or is it just random?

What software can open older Jasc PSP 9 files?

I'm a long time (but occasional) user of PSP 9, and while it still does everything I need, I can no longer find any support, either paid or peer, for my once-a-year questions.

I have no problem buying a more supported package, but I'd like to be able to open or at least convert my existing library of files. I don't 'do' photo work, so something that's aimed mostly at retouching or color grading is not favored.

Any advice on good options? I'd prefer to buy rather than rent, if you know what I mean (-:

Of course, a fine alternative would be to find out that people here can answer PSP 9 questions!

Chinese webfont optimisation

For Latin-based fonts, I will download the font I want to use and run it through Fontsquirrel.com's webfont generator and subset the font accordingly. However, I'm building a Chinese site right now, and the fonts I'm using are too large to upload to Fontsquirrel. Does anyone have an approach for optimising Chinese fonts? Otherwise, I'll just have to fallback to system fonts instead.

How to view width of a path's stroke in millimeters in Illustrator CS6?

How can I view the width of a path's stroke in millimeters ? I can see the width and height values (see screenshot) in the info bar but these measure the width and height of the whole circle shape. I want to know the width of the stroke in mm. The path is expanded from a type object.

Illustrator version is CS6 Mac

How can I create a punctilio for verifying path width in Illustrator?

Spreadshirt design guidelines dictate that all lines and elements need to be a thickness of at least 1.5mm. They suggest you can verify this by:

using a 1.5mm dot (punctilio) to mouse over the thinnest parts of your design and 1.0mm circle to mouse over this space between the lines.

How can I achieve this in Illustrator CS6 Mac?

Can I have a "Live" Navigator in Photoshop CC?

I record my work by capturing the navigator on a second monitor at 1920x1080. This is much easier on the eye at 16x speed because the screen isn't shooting all over from zooms and panning. However, the navigator only updates when an action has finished. This means that long brush strokes add pauses to the recording. I need a way to either modify my navigator to update during an action. Or to somehow duplicate my canvas at a different zoom level and be truly "live". Id love to hear anyone's ideas or plugin information that might help, thanks!

How do I make SVG files more transferable from Inkscape to Illustrator and viewable in Chrome?

I've created a SVG file in Inkscape [1] and I've noticed that viewing it in Chrome or Illustrator causes a number of parts of the diagram to be invisible or otherwise poorly rendered (e.g., in Chrome some of the arrows are oriented the wrong way, whereas in Illustrator CS6 the line segments in arrows are invisible, but the arrow heads are still visible). Is there any way of making the file more compatible with these pieces of software whilst not loosing any of the existing parts of the file (e.g., I want to keep all the arrows, all the shapes, all the gradient colourings, etc.)

Need Advice on portfolio Design

I am self taught Front End Developer. I am finally confident enough to start marketing myself. I'm almost done with the layout of my portfolio. I hope to use some animations all throughout the design based on scroll.

Any and all criticism is welcomed!!!

Argument for cluttered layout

Ok, this is not what many people may want to hear. But this is what i have observed and felt. I like cluttered catalog, and ecommerce sites. Specially when i am browsing. And company is niche and the one i don't come to often.

But i definitely don't like clutter when i know what i want and list is sorted. But i do like clutter where things are somewhat randomly placed together. It feels more natural, welcoming, interesting (chaos is more interesting), less cold, less rushed, and more humane.

They are like mini worlds you just want to explore.

I want to know if i am the only one, or there is some study on it. IMO, isn't stacked boxes boring, especially when you have to keep scrolling.

Is there a site that finds font for you based on words (feelings)

So if i type code, it would bring up latest hot tech related font. If I wrote Birthday, rebellion, 2014, world cup, horror, movie name, etc.

So it makes a network of data associating qualities with font using crowd.

Best Grayscale method for checking contrast?

While designing art assets in Photoshop, I've always tried to use the Grayscale method for checking the contrast levels. Unfortunately, different articles/sources recommend different methods of desaturating an image, and they all produce vastly different results:

A) Create new layer, fill in #000000 Black, set blending mode to saturation

B) Hue/saturation adjustment layer, saturation slider down

C) Vibrancy adjustment layer, saturation slider down

D) Switching to a Black and white gamut proof

E) Black and white adjustment layer

Which one do you use (if any) when designing your artwork, and does anyone happen to know which method produces the most accurate result for checking contrast? Cheers!

What do you think of? Watch, technology, classic / modern, time, space, infinity

Would LOVE some help.

I'm trying to come up with a logo for my watch brand. Main idea is it will be classic but modern. I know that's a bit of an oxymoron but yeah.

The other main ideas I'm trying to convey include: watch, time, technology, classic | modern, time, space, infinite, fashion, stylish.

Anyone got any ideas?

Drawing a double helix in Inkscape

I've seen this How can I create a double helix? question but I am here to ask you how to create a double-helix in Inkscape, instead of illustrator. I have tried to achieve this via creating two sine waves (using the Parametric Curves extension) and doing some cutting and colouring-in from there and this is what I'm at atm. After this I would create another sine way with the opposite vertical orientation (which would be the second helix) and go from there.

I have also tried (and failed pretty miserably: I find it impossible to seamlessly vectorize such complex raster files) vectorizing a structure of DNA drawn using Accelrys DS Visualizer (see below for the original image if you have the skill to vectorize it in a way you could share with me). I would like to know is there any better ways of doing this.

This is what I have so far from the sine wave method; see in the first instance where I wanted to colour between the waves, the coloured area would form part of the helix. enter image description here

This double helix is the one I obtained using Accelrys DS Visualizer, with later GIMP editing (mostly in an effort to make it easier to vectorize, you may note that the helix backbone is no longer coloured in shades of white like it was originally). enter image description here

Combine 2 Unicode letters into 1 in Fontlab Studio

Being new to Fontlab Studio 5, I'm creating a Tifinagh font using its Unicode block...

I created all the letters except that I need to add a ligature (if this is the right word?) as shown below;

Tifinagh combine two letters into one

So when user types the sequence of the two letters; I format the two letters into 1.

I tryed the Glyph menu and Generate Glyphs but doesn't seem to work :)

Is that possible at all or I'm missing something?

Thanks!

Using .ai, how do a create bleed lines for print

I am a noob trying to learn how to properly create 'cut lines' and 'bleed lines' for a die cut shapes for print using .ai cs6.

The object is something like this:

die cut objects with bleed dashes

I am looking to know how to properly mark my cut lines and outline the shape with the red dashes 'bleed lines' so the red dashes do not appear inside the shape. Just the outer outline of shape should have the red dash bleed lines.

This is the .ai file of the uploaded .png since they dont allow .ai uploads http://ift.tt/1rpCflK but its probably easy enough to understand what I am looking to know without referring to this .ai file.

Every hotkey in Photoshop selects the Path Selection Tool. How do I get my shortcuts back?

Since updating to Yosemite, my Photoshop CS4 for Mac has decided the Path Selection Tool can do every job, lol. I went to "Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts..." and made sure it was on the default settings. I even checked those defaults to make sure they weren't resetting to the Path Selection Tool. I can see no reason besides a glitch between Yosemite and CS4, and after searching for a solution, it seems like no one else has ever had this problem. Does anyone here have any suggestions?

If so, I have taken a picture with a green screen in the background. How should I place the chair in the room or apply wallpaper in the background without loosing the shadow of the chair or the lights in background?

Illustrator space around outline and removing shape

I've used "//" and "\" to create this "W", and have made them into outlines, as I'm trying to give the different layers a colour, as well as having a white space where the lines touch and I would like to remove the top of the second "\".

I'm struggling with the white space at the moment and now I've added a stroke, the fill has decreased. Is there another way I could do this?

I've also tried to use my pen tool to remove the top of the "\" but when using "Path Finder" I cannot find an option to "Minus Forward". I'm a newbie so any advice would be lovely :)

How can I print powdered herbs and vitamins using an inkjet printer?

I'd like to modify an inkjet printer to print powdered herbs and vitamins. There was a comment by http://ift.tt/143UTW7 on Can I fill a ink cartridge with any type of ink? Even valuable ink?

That suggested it was possible to print vitamins using an inkjet printer. I was wondering how to do this, where to get sterile inkjet canisters to fill, how to fill the canisters and how to print to pill capsules using a "capsule machine" or to edible paper.

Thanks in advance

Asset animation repositroy

I am currently working on a mobile based game. There are a lot assets involved and an equal amount of animations(buttons, graphical elements, etc.) Now the real problem is that getting the exact idea in my head across to the developers is proving to be quite difficult. To put it simply, it is difficult to make them imagine what I am imagining. I have tried to recreate certain basic effects using after effects, but that is proving to be too time consuming! Is there a repository over the internet where I can see different kinds of animations? I have gone through Capptivate. Also seen Dribble etc for the same. I admit that these sites have helped me a bit, but they are too wide spread in their content. Please , if anyone knows a place where they have a gallery of different kinds of animations(mobile based preferably), let me know! It would be of a great help!

Thanks, Mayank

How to create vector graphic image like these?

Would anybody please do let me know how to create graphic images/ effects as mentioned in below images?

I want to know the tools/ techniques to create such graphics images for web based usage.

Is it possible to use Adobe Flash CS6 with a touchscreen laptop?

I just got my student license for flash, and figured I didn't need a Wacom or anything due to my touchscreen laptop. Though, any time I try to use it, it simply scrolls around on the scene without actually drawing anything.

How to save logo for web from Illustrator (logo looks pixelated after uploading)

Every time I try saving my logo from Illustrator, it comes out blurry.

The logo was done in Illustrator (as a vector file). I tried tracing the outline, rasterizing, saving in all types of files....The font still looks blurry. I have no idea why. I use a Retina Display mac and haven't tested it in a regular computer.

Suggestions? Below are a couple of different file saves...

Save #1

Save #2

Any suggestions?

Two colors for one graphic

I have a graphic in photoshop that is red, it's two hands that are bent to make a heart. The graphic is red and a single graphic. Is it possible to change it that the right hand color is different from the left hand color? For example, can I change it the right hand to be blue and the left hand to be green?

Editing PNG in GIMP: is it possible to remove lines (used as arrows) and extrapolate the now blank squares?

I'm using GIMP to prepare this PNG file for vectorization in Inkscape. I've noticed that the vectorization process makes removing these lines far more tedious after the vectorization than before. Removing these lines by using the "Select by Color" tool leaves transparent pixels and I'd like to know how I can give these pixels the colour one could expect them to have based on the colours of neighbouring squares. Is there any way to systemically extrapolate these colours?

This is the PNG I'm editing. enter image description here

What are the best practices for dealing with desired line breaks in responsive web design?

I design a great deal of simple single page web items for sales or email. I often find I run into issues with headlines and my desired line breaks at different media widths.

For example, I could have a headline such as:

Our New thingamabob is the best thing since sliced bread!

With absolutely no attention to line breaks the line breaks like this:

Our New thingamabob is the best thing since

sliced bread!

At full web size, I'd like to break the line after "the". Creating two lines.

Our New thingamabob is the

best thing since sliced bread!

For a screen with a medium width, I'd break twice:

Our New thingamabob

is the best thing

since sliced bread!

For even narrower screens, I'd break after "new", after "thingamabob", and after "thing". Creating four lines.

Our New

thingamabob

is the best thing

since sliced bread!

I really don't want to use break tags (<br>) because that hard-sets the breaks at all sizes. Up until now I've used media queries and width percentages for the various h1-h5 tags so that the width of the tag forces a break. But this seems "hacky" to me (it is also very temperamental at times based upon the actual text).

What's the best way to control line breaks without hard coding them into the html?

Is it possible to get Inkscape's bucket fill to entirely fill regions marked by lines?

I've noticed there's a slight gap between shapes and lines in which bucket-fill is applied (to the enclosed areas found therein) and the colour fill in Inkscape, is there any way of removing this gap (besides the older-fashion manual way by manipulating the borders of the bucket fill, which is very tedious)?

I need a little help with logo direction.

I am a little stuck with a logo design I'm doing for a new client. She is looking to start a sex advise brand called "The Please Her Principles". The business will be event based with her giving advise to women on how to be intimate. So the logo will mostly be used on flyers, but also throughout the events. She does not want her image, but she wants the logo to reflect the core concept of the business. I have played around with the typography, but nothing is really moving me. Does anyone have any advise that I can run with?

Why can't I draw on my image with illustrator?

Right after, when I selected the paintbrush tool, it turned into a circle with a line through it, implying that I couldn't draw.

Brush stroke a path with thin-thick-thin in Photoshop

So i know I can use brush simulate a brush stroke from thin-thick-thin Thin-Thick-Thin and thick to thin with the fade option Thick-Thin.

Is there a way to simulate a brush stroke so the path will have thick end points and thin middle. I mean with out a tablet of some sort.

In addition, can i brush a path starting from the end point and not from the start anchor point?

If there is no way to do it in Photoshop, can I do something similar in Illustrator?

Thank you

Photoshop: How to know which layer does graphic object inside

I have met this situation, and because I just learn photoshop so I don't know how to solve this.

I have a psd file contains some layers. Those layers have grouped together. Then I draw a graphic (in my case is an eclipse). AFAIK, when I draw a new graphic object, photoshop will put automatically new object in new layer. I have checked but doesn't see any new layers. I also test by disable each group (click on the eye on the left of the layer) but I always see that graphic object on screen. (So it means this object doesn't contain in any layers, right ? )

The only solution currently is closing document without saving and redo work again.

My question is: where does this graphic object store. And how can I know which layer of some object when I don't know where it come from.

Thanks :)

Sketch3: where is the reflection tool?

Best way (efficient and nice output) and best software to ink comics digitally

I am a hobbyist and I like comics - to read them, and eventually to write them but it didn't happen yet.

Maybe my question is not specific enough, but I am almost obsessed with inking comics, partly because I haven't found the right way to do it.

A while ago my wife has asked me to do a drawing of Korra (of Legend of Korra) doing physics bending for a Christmas card that she's going to give it to the students (she teaches science). I started off by trying to do it digitally. I struggled quite a lot (days) trying to digitally ink it in a way that I like it. I ended up doing it by hand in two hours, pencils and pigma micron pens. Since then I started to question the efficiency of inking via the computer. I know Illustrator contains some features that that can trace your drawing in one swoop but I haven't tried it yet.

I tried the following software: Manga Studio 5 Ex (MS5), PointTool Sai (SAI), Illustrator CC (AI), Autodesk SketchBook Designer 2013 (SBD 2013, this is not the same as Sketchbook - it is a version that is not developed anymore, unfortunately, and which has great vector support) and, of course photoshop CC (PHS).

I used the mouse, Intuous 5 touch table and a cintiq 12 tablet.

My personal problem is that my hand is not steady enough and sometimes the lines are a bit wobbly, they might have these knuckles, or whatever you may want to call them. Hence, I usually like to use vector lines (of different widths of course) which are very smooth.

I've done a lot of research, watched a lot of videos on youtube. Here two that I liked and found useful:

From what I've seen there are several methods:

  • tracing using the Pen tool (AI or PHS) and defining closed shapes that represent the ink edges of the figure. They look very nice, but in my mind it's a lot of work.

  • tracing using a vector tool such as the AI paint brush tool, the pencil or the pen (SBD 2013 has the ability to add vector based curves, SAI- vector layer). In this case, when using a tablet, the software can detect the pressure and you can have a nice looking line). The line widths can also be corrected. Each of these software packages support changing the line with later. This takes less time, however, you need to go in detail and make sure all the lines are properly arranged to give an harmonious look.

  • trace manually using a pencil tool in a rasterized layer. MS5 supports that, you can probably do it in PHS using the right brushes. As I said, this is less appealing to me because my hand is not steady enough. MS5 has the stabilizing feature, but if you increase the stabilizing number it kind of becomes a bit weird, the tools seems to resist the stroke.

  • I've seen a video here: http://ift.tt/1z9OoZO where the author inked using the blob brush tool. It looks interesting but it is quite a lot of work. I like, however, the end result quite a lot.

  • using the automatic tracing from AI - haven't tried it yet.

Overall, the easiest was to ink the figure using SAI (it's not finished, it has no shading...). I didn't finish the inking in MS5, AI, SBD 2013 and PHS but I played extensively with them.

enter image description here

So, I am not really looking for one definitive answer. I am interested to see what works for you when it comes to inking digitally.

How to create svg path from right to left / center to sides / or vice versa?

I have a line drawing in png format. I need to create an svg from this line drawing.

I need to create the svg path from right to left, left to right, center to sides OR sides to center...

I'm using a jQuery plugin (lazy line painter), that animates this line drawing in the sequence of the path provided in the svg file.

I'm using Adobe Illustrator CS6, and it creates a jumbled up svg path in the svg file. Due to this, the animation starts and ends abruptly from any direction (as per the svg path in svg file)

I also have the portable version of Inkscape, although I don't know how to use Inkscape to import the png as line vector.

Pleas can someone suggest a way to do this in either Illustrator, Inkscape, or any other utility?

Thanks.

Is it possible to learn Adobe-Indesign CC quickly, considering the fact that I have not enough background in graphic desgin? What is a good reference to learn Adobe-Indesign CC?

Is there anyone interested to help me about this project?

Exporting to a png in illustrator

I've been trying to save an Illustrator CS5 document to a web ready png but it isn't saving as the right colour values. I've converted it to sRGB in the document settings but it's coming up as a lighter version of the logo.

Is there anything that can help? I've also tried JPEG with the same result.

Can you stack clipping masks?

I'm trying to follow this tutorial: http://ift.tt/1wDKU4X

In the first part where it says to: "Add the following image adjustment layers as clipping mask to this sky layer"

I added 4 new image adjustment layers, and made them all clipping masks, like this: enter image description here

The values of all the layers are correct, but my image doesn't look like the one in the tutorial at this point. To my surprise re-arranging the order of the image adjustment layers, even though they're clipping masks, makes a difference to how the image looks.

How am I supposed to know, following that tutorial, how I should arrange my image adjustment layers?

Save as placed file name

Say I have a file DSC_0377.jpg. I can open a this with Illustrator, make changes, then choose File Save As Save as type Adobe PDF

and it will be saved as DSC_0377.pdf, as desired. However if I

  • open an Illustrator Template

  • File Place the same JPG

  • File Save As Save as type Adobe PDF

it will be saved as Untitled-1.pdf. Does Illustrator have an easy way to save using the name of the placed file? I have many JPGs I need to do this with, so I would prefer to not have to do something like copy and paste the file names.

How to create a ribbon with shadows?
